Rachel Nichols

Rachel Nichols is best known for her commentary on the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and her stints at ESPN, where she co-hosted SportsNation from 2011-to 2014.

In 2017, she became a correspondent for ABC’s Sunday Night Football.

Rachel Nichols is a two-time Emmy Award nominee.

She began her sports broadcasting career in 2003 when she was hired as a reporter for Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. She also served as a fill-in anchor for the San Francisco 49ers, and Oakland Athletics pregame shows on Comcast SportsNet California during the 2004 season. In addition, Rachel Nichols was an anchor and reporter for MavTV’s Ultimate College Football Show, a live half-hour college football preview show originating from Las Vegas.

In 2004, Rachel Nichols joined ESPN as a reporter for Cold Pizza and later moved to television and radio programs such as Outside the Lines, First Take, Around the Horn, Pardon the Interruption, and The Sports Reporters. She also served as an occasional sideline reporter for college football games.

In 2011, Nichols began co-hosting ESPN’s morning sports talk show, “SportsNation.”

In 2016, Nichols began covering the NBA for ESPN.

In February 2017, Rachel Nichols left ESPN after ten years to join Turner Sports as a host on “The NBA on TNT” and a sideline reporter for NBA telecasts on TNT. On November 4, 2017, it was reported that she would be joining the Los Angeles Lakers broadcast team as an analyst.

She is the founder of We Need More and ConnectedCamps.org, a campaign for more female sports journalists.

Rachel Nichols is a San Francisco native. She graduated from Santa Clara University, where she also served as Sports Director of SCU’s radio station KSCU.

She also attended Georgetown University, a member of the school’s first NCAA Women’s Varsity Lacrosse team.

Nichols has also won back-to-back Gracie Awards (the Oscars of the sports journalism world) for On-Camera Talent in 2016 and 2017, respectively. See this page for additional information about Rachel Nichols.
